Tim & Mandy {February 5, 2011}

Tim and Mandy were married on a crisp but beautiful saturday in February. The wedding was absolutely beautiful, beginning to end. I love the chance of being with the bride and her bridesmaids just minutes before the wedding and feel all the excited nervousness shared! (Mandy, you were so cute)!

Mandy and Tim were all smiles throughout the whole day. I loved photographing these two for their engagement as well, and could not wait for the wedding. Tim was always making Mandy laugh! They are so cute together. I had such a wonderful time with you two, thank you for letting me share in your special day!

A Must Read for Brides

I found a great link to a list for brides to get the best photos possible. If you are planning for full day photo coverage for your wedding day, this is a must read! This is one photographers personal guide to help create a great environment for you and your photographer.

Tip of the Month!

Rule of Thirds. What is it about?
When you look through your viewfinder, imagine a grid over the view from your lens. (I guess like a tic tac toe grid if that helps?) The picture is divided into nine equal parts right? Where these lines intersect are the best points to focus your subject in. Not focusing your subject in the center of the frame, but rather on the points where the lines intersect, creates interest to your photograph. It tends to draw the eye to the subject, which is usually the goal in especially portrait photography, but also makes an impact on other types of photography like nature, and macro!

Tim & Mandy {Engagement}

When Mandy got engaged, she knew she wanted me for her engagement photos, and I was thrilled to do them! We headed out to Galt Museum for some photo taking! The weather was actually pretty amazing being November and all. The only bad part was the wind. Good ol' Southern Alberta wind! We faired well though. Mandy and Tim were amazing to work with! They were absolutely adorable together, always smiling and laughing with each other! I can not wait for their winter wedding in February!

Trash the Dress

I have been DYING to do a "trash the dress" photoshoot for awhile now and finally got my chance, thanks to the lovely Sam :) It was so much fun! I could have spent hours and hours with Sam taking photos. This is only Part 1. Sam also agreed that she would go in the water for me! I can not WAIT for that photoshoot!

Tip of the Month!

Usually to soften the light from a camera flash you would buy a soft box to put over the flash to soften the light on the object you are photographing. If you do not have the funds for off-camera flash and flash equipment, you can use a simple little technique. For those of you who have an on-camera flash and you wish to soften the light, you can use a simple household item like a piece of white cloth or a white napkin, tie it around the flash with an elastic band, and voila! It doesn't work as well as a soft box, but it definitely makes the shadows less harsh as well as reducing red eye!

Dave & CayLee Engagement

I have decided that I am in LOVE with engagement photography! It's just so wonderful to photograph couples when they are still in that "I'm engaged and so in love" stage. When you start posing newly engaged couples and you see the look of love in their eyes when they look at each other, that's what inspires me! I think it is wonderful when you can find your soul mate. I love capturing that love between two people. Dave & CayLee were the very example of what inspires me. When they looked at each other, you knew they were meant to be. I can not WAIT for their wedding next summer!

Tip of the Month!

I thought I would add a little more fun to my blog and start a photography Tip of the Month, with fun little tidbits for all the hobbyist photographers out there! I would like to eventually do a Tip of the Week, but for now it will be just once a month!

Tip of the Month:
Wedding photography has changed in the past few years and brides now-a-days like to remember the details of their special day! When photographing a wedding, remember to capture these small details including the bride’s bouquet, the center pieces on the tables, down to the shoes the bride and groom are wearing! Don't forget one of the most important details of the day, the bride and grooms wedding rings!

Ian & Delaney {August 20, 2010}

My cousin asked me to photograph her wedding, and I was so excited because she said that I could do whatever I wanted! She had absolutely no opinion on anything really, just totally trusted my creativity. It was such a lovely wedding, and everyone was so co-operative that it made the day go by super smooth. The day did start off a little sketchy though. When we woke up the wedding morning the weather was, well, smoky. Some forest fires out west had caused a haze over the province. I was so hoping the smoke wouldn't be too thick for us for photo taking. Our luck, once the formal session started the smoke seemed to lift a bit and actually made for an interesting and inspiring background! I had so much fun with this shoot! I even got to be in a limo for the first time, and had some ideas and techniques that I was super excited to try out. Thanks to the two of you for letting me be a part of your special day!

Brett & Jamie {July 24, 2010}

Jamie was the first bride to ask me to photograph her wedding. I was so honoured that she would pick me knowing it would be one of my first weddings. And boy, was it a TON of fun! It was a beautiful wedding on a beautiful summer day! Jamie's fiancé (now husband) is really into golfing, and they asked if I could incorporate some golf-theme photos into the session. I love it when clients give me a bit of a challenge and stretch my creative abilities :-) I also love being able to fit personality into any photo session I do. The uniqueness of every person is so inspiring and I love being able to capture their personalities. Thank you two for letting me be a part of your day. It was definitely a blast!

Cody & Rochelle {July 17, 2010}

Rochelle and Cody's wedding was my first wedding, and what a great time that was! The wedding was country/western inspired and the decor was very well done! Rochelle requested that most of the formal photos would be with their horses that they have had ever since they were little. The horses were not so co-operative, but we did get a few shots in that I love! The horses in the photos really added to that western feel. Cody and Rochelle had been together for about 10 years before they got married, and while photographing them I could see the deep love they had for eachother, and for their beautiful little daughter. The wedding was so emotional. I don't think there was a dry eye in the crowd! It was really amazing. Thanks you two for letting me be a part of your day!
